1st Injured Bone

Monday evening the kids were playing a game in the living room. One that has been advised as a No-No, but played anyways. It is a game that the one kids is swinging another and then lets go, so one let go of Ali and she landed on the corner of her toy box with her neck. Not seeing anything popping out and with mobility, I put her to bed with drugs and ice packs. I spent the night in her bed with her and observed her and we rotated the ice packs and drugs every 2-3 hours. Tuesday am she still had some mobility, but was really babying the left arm and refused me picking her up. It would bring her to tears, which for my baby girl that loves being picked up is a big thing! I sent her to school to see how much of the mom card was being played, but still made a dr. appt. When I picked her up from school, her arm was worse than when I dropped her off so we sped off to her dr. appt. He had us get an xray because it could be anything from a really good bruise to a fractured collar bone. We then went to the xray office. She walked back with the lady  all by herself while I waited with McKenna in the waiting room. She came back and I was told she did very well and was very brave.

After that we went out to visit daddy and show mr. Rick our new van. Just as I had gotten to the bookstore, I received a call that she fractured her bone and we needed to get a brace for her. Unfortunately our insurance wouldn't cover the brace if we bought it from our pedi, but they suggested going to CVS or Walgreens.

So I picked up the kids from school, then we headed to CVS and Walgreens, both a failure. So I just went back to the pedi and paid for the brace from them. She did an awesome job and was very brave while they put the brace on her. I am so proud of my big girl!

Now the trick will be getting her to wear the brace for the next 2 weeks :)

Ali's Hearing

For about a year or so I have wondered about Ali's hearing. Ok, lets go back further, since she was a baby. She didn't have many ear infections like Dash, but instead she had a lot of clear fluid in her ears. Which isn't bad, but isn't good either. I asked her Dr. about a year ago and again this past spring, what we can do and really, she was too young to take a legit hearing test. There was nothing really giving me a sign as to she couldn't hear fully other than my mom gut. I mentioned it again to her Dr. last week because I could start to see some of the signs:
*having to say things over and over again until I am yelling them at her
*her asking over and over again, huh? what mama?
*some slurred speech, now she has some clear speech, I will admit that, but there are somethings that only I can understand what she is saying. When Ryan started to have a hard time understanding her, I realized I needed to say something.

With all that said, we had her hearing tested by an Audiologist today at Dr. Condon's office. The audiologist saw some of my concerns too and I didn't tell her what they were until the end of the appointment. She didn't fail horribly, but enough to do something about before it get's worse. I think we caught it soon enough.
I know it is not too bad because no teacher or anyone else has even mentioned it. It really is just a mommy gut feeling.

We will be meeting with our ENT, Dr. Condon, a Matt Mikesell and Daniel Mikesell favorite :) He is the Dr. that also put in both sets of Dash's tubes in. We will meet with him on November 26th in the afternoon. I am really hoping to hear: "all she needs is a set of tubes."

Shiny

Dash is trying to understand the Jesus thing, but I think he is missing a dot.

this was from back in October. not sure what the rest was suppose to be, but i think he is really letting Jesus shine through him this week.

Tuesday night he went and sang to Ali and snuggled her at bed time. Such a nice big brother. I am constantly getting GREAT remarks from Mrs. Grooms at school. She is Elliot's helper. Elliot has Autism  I am so proud of the boy he is! He just makes my heart smile when he lets Jesus shine through!

Date Night

I was able to go out on  a date with Sammie the other night. Together we stopped at my work. Then we went over to Wal-Mart to pick some stuff up for work and get her some boots. To make it a fun stop, she showed me all the things she would like to put on her Christmas list, then proceeded to tell me what was at the top of the list :) We ended our night with a trip to Mickey D's where she fully enjoyed a dipped cone and I had a hot fudge sundae with nuts.

I had a lot of fun going and remembering what fun is like! Thankful we were able to enjoy each other like we did before school started.

Bed time

a few weeks ago the kids were concerned, about when my bed time is. Well, I came up with the answer that it should be, but usually is not, 10:00. They thought this was super late since they usually have lights out at 6:30!

Well tonight, Dash came out because he had a bad dream, which his are usually about his room/our house and being on fire and being stuck or lost in the loud noise. Tonight it was, he woke up because his clock wasn't working and then his alarm was going off and it was soo loud so he was covering his ears with his big sit up pillow.

I reassured him that if there ever was a real fire we would come and get him and if we could get through the hallway we would come through the windows and if we couldn't get him the fireman would come get him too!

I sent him to the potty and then tucked him back in. At which he goes, "mom, is it after 10?' "yes honey, it is, Mommy has a lot of work to do tonight. Now you get some rest ok." "ok mom, i love you."

Such a boy that needs to make sure everyone else is following the rules! He knew it was past 10, since he was just in the bathroom with a neon digital clock telling him it was 11:00. He was politely telling me it is past my bedtime.

This was a much kinder way than when I am driving. But that is another post.

Dash comments this week:

On Monday after getting in the van after school, the very first thing he says to me is:

"Mom, I'm sorry, I lied."
"what did you lie about?"
"mom, I'm really sorry, I lied."

Well after a few more rounds of that I learned that he had packed himself mini-oreo bites for his afternoon snack at school instead of the pop tart he told me he had packed.

Monday evening after filling out Dash's voter registration card for school and their mock vote, I asked him who he was voting for.
"Mitt Romney. We want Romney, right mom?"
"Why do you want Romney."
"oh, wait, no, I want the other President guy. I saw on a tv commercial that said, 'you don't want the other guy, he will take all your money.' So I am not going to vote for Romney, I am going to vote for the other guy."

I just let it go. I was not about to get into a debate as to why simply basing your vote on one tv commercial was the way to go!

So today after school I asked how his voting went. And like any curious parent, I asked who he voted for.
"I voted for Mitt Romney and for the other President I voted for Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. Not for SpongeBob."
"I thought you said you were going to vote for Obama. Why did you vote for Romney?"
"I don't know, I just did. That is who I wanted to vote for.  and Mrs. Piggle Wiggle she follows RRS (respectful, responsible, and safe), but Spongbob doesn't so that is why I voted for her and not him."
